Photo editing affinity photo9/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Image credit: Rod LawtonĪffinity Photo is organised into a series of different ‘Personas’ according to what you want to do and the tools you need. Image credit: Rod Lawton The Tone Mapping Persona is so good at HDR, both stylized and subtle, that you may never want to use anything else. Usability and interface The Develop Persona now offers the option to output the processed image to a RAW Layer, which means you will be able to change the RAW processing settings at will further down the line. It’s a multi-discipline crossover tool for artists, designers and illustrators, not just photographers, in exactly the same way that Photoshop is. It has an excellent inpainting brush for object removal, powerful selection and masking tools and both natural brush media tools and vector drawing and type layers too. Another is its Live Filters, which can be added non-destructively as layers and manipulated live on the image. ![]() One is a set of tone mapping tools which are much better at realistic or hyper-real HDR effects than Photoshop’s. Like Photoshop, this is software designed for people who know what they want to do and don’t need any ideas from their software.Īffinity Photo 2 does have some notable power features. There is no library of presets and no means of creating your own. It’s also not designed for instant effects and ‘looks’. It is an extremely powerful photo editor that matches Photoshop feature-for-feature and even beats it in many areas.īut it also lacks any kind of browsing or cataloguing tools, and there are none across the whole Affinity suite, not even something as basic as Adobe Bridge. Perhaps the most important thing to note about Affinity Photo is that it’s just like Photoshop – and lacks all the things that Photoshop lacks. Image credit: Rod Lawton Live Filters are one of Affinity Photo’s party tricks – it can apply lightning effects live, for example, in a non-destructive layer you can modify at any time. Image credit: Rod Lawton The Develop Persona’s Detail Refinement option does a remarkable job of enhancing detail without artefacts. Key features Affinity Photo 2 has powerful RAW processing tools to rival those in Adobe Camera Raw, but it’s integrated into Affinity Photo, not a separate tool. There is also an Affiinity Photo for iPad edition, which I reviewed some time back, which is remarkably powerful for a tablet app and feels more ‘finished’ than Photoshop for iPad. What’s more, at the time of writing, Affinity is continuing a 40% off introductory offer which means Affinity Photo 2 is just $40.99/ £35.99 to buy. And although all three have had a slight price increase, they are still dramatically cheaper to buy/own than their Adobe rivals.

![]() ![]() ![]() As much as I'm comparing apps here, I'm also ranking them against the ease of signing a sheet of paper.Īccessibility for small to mid-sized businesses. (Seriously, I've had to sign a lot of documents with awful apps.) The recipient also had to be able to do it without being forced to sign up for an account or install any apps. This is a really important feature for a dedicated eSign app and, like when signing a document yourself, I wanted it to be easy and pleasant for the recipient. The ability to send a document to someone else to have them sign it. While almost any app can simply add a signature or typed name, I was looking for ones that were great to use and could fit into a lot of different workflows, whether you were onboarding people internally or hiring external contractors. But the simpler and easier it is to do, the more different kinds of documents and devices that are supported, and the deeper the integrations with other apps and software platforms, the better. Signing things is the whole point of these apps. The ability to add an electronic (or digital) signature to any document. Any good eSignature app has to meet a few criteria: To make this list, the document signing software had to be nice to use but also provide all the features that businesses need. And while there are lots of eSignature apps out there, a lot of them are awful to use. The problem with business app categories like this is that often the people paying for the app (or deciding which one to get) aren't the ones who have to use it every day. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site-we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. What makes a great electronic signature app?Īll of our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. We use the terms interchangeably-in common usage, they basically are-but it's worth keeping that distinction in mind as you do your research. For official purposes, digital signatures are a lot more secure and legally recognized around the world-and you need a dedicated eSign app to add them. If there ever was a court case, it would be a lot harder for anyone to claim they weren't the one to actually sign the document-the kid hardly squiggled in their email address. This creates both a "fingerprint" that makes the document unique and a paper trail that can be independently verified. If the other side can convincingly argue that your erstwhile business partner left their iPad on their coffee table and a small child decided to draw a squiggle on the open document, then you might be out a lot of money.Ī digital signature is a special kind of electronic signature that uses cryptography to protect the document and also embeds details like email addresses, when and where people signed any documents, and the serial number and identifying details of the device they use to do it. It's still legally binding, but because anyone could easily forge it, you might have a harder time enforcing its validity in a contentious court case. ![]() You can make one with almost any app, from Microsoft Word to Adobe Photoshop. Plant vs zombie 29/25/2023 ![]() ![]() In easy Endless Zone levels, refrain from using Tile Turnip in order to conserve Plant Food for harder levels. ![]() In the higher levels of Endless Zones, Power Lily is often needed to replenish Plant Food that the player uses on Tile Turnip-empowered plants. For one Plant Food, every zombie on screen will be frozen, poisoned, and shrunken, and some even turned into Imps, which can wipe out even the largest of waves with ease. Tile Turnip can work exceptionally well for "comboing" Plant Food effects that affect the whole board, such as Iceberg Lettuce, Shadow-shroom, Shrinking Violet and Imp Pear. Tile Turnip can be used in conjunction with Primal Potato Mine to fill the board up with them, which allows several large waves of zombies to be destroyed at the cost of only one Plant Food. this can be counter-productive as tile turnip can get very expensive quickly. You can also use Tile Turnips with Twin Sunflowers or Sun-shrooms as a way to get a large amount of sun quickly. Another good recipient for Tile Turnip chains are multi-directional plants such as Threepeaters and Snapdragons. Three Winter Melons with Tile Turnips under each of them (total sun cost: 2250) can destroy almost any zombie onscreen. He works best with plants whose Plant Food affects multiple lanes, such as lobbed-shot plants.Īn excellent recipient for Tile Turnips is the Winter Melon, as his high-power Plant Food upgrade affects all zombies on screen, and with Tile Turnips, that effect can be multiplied several times just for the price of one Plant Food. Tile Turnip is an excellent plant for increasing the power of Plant Food upgrades. Red prices are increased prices only affordable in the Chinese version. Gray prices are increased prices that are over the maximum allowed sun amount and therefore are not affordable. ![]() Yellow prices are increased prices that can still be used. Green prices are the default according to the Almanac. In the international version, Tile Turnip's upgrades further improve his cost efficiency and number of free tiles, allowing more to be placed with reduced expenses. However, in the Chinese version, the max sun limit has been increased to 33,464, allowing the player to place nine Tile Turnips, indeed achieving the 32,000 sun cost. Up to seven Tile Turnips can be legally planted in a single level before the sun cost exceeds 9900, preventing more Tile Turnips from being planted without hacking. He starts out at 0 sun, then increases to 250 for the second, and doubles for every Tile Turnip planted afterwards. Unlike every other plant, Tile Turnip, Imitater and Ultomato are the only plants to always have a variable sun cost. This amount will be decreased after levelling up. *** Cost Efficiency: The amount increased of its sun cost for every subsequent planting of Tile Turnips (after planting the first non-free Tile Turnip). ** Free Tiles: Allows the player to plant more Tile Turnips for free (0 sun) at the start. * This column shows the cost shown in the Almanac, which is for the first non-free Tile Turnip after the free ones at the start. Perennial garden layout planner9/24/2023 ![]() ![]() Some steep slopes might be ideal sites for rock gardens. Such slopes might also be good candidates for a tough, spreading, mat-forming groundcover. They may require terracing if you want to create flowerbeds without losing soil. Steep slopes pose special problems, especially protecting soil from erosion. For example, areas close to the north sides of buildings get little direct sun.įlower gardens are easiest to establish on level or slightly sloping ground. Indicate which way is north on your sketch so that you become more aware of how much sun different places receive. Sketch in existing trees and other plantings. Add the garage, other buildings, driveway, walks, fences, and patios. Now might be a good time to start sketching your design plans on paper. Very few plants will thrive here - with the exception of some tough, competitive groundcovers. This is one of the most difficult places to grow flowers, however, because of the deep shade and intense competition for moisture and nutrients from tree roots. One of the most tempting places to put your flower garden is around the base of a mature tree. Also consider how neighbors and passersby will see your gardens. Don't forget about how the beds will look when viewed through windows from inside the house. Especially consider the views from private outdoor spaces such as patios, decks, and terraces. Plant flower beds where you can see them. Prepare soil well in advance of planting - preferably in fall for planting the following spring. Unless you are going to limit yourself to plants that can tolerate boggy soil conditions, avoid locating flower gardens where there is standing water after heavy rains or during the spring thaw. Most garden plants need well-drained soil. See Flower Growing Guides for more information on sunlight requirements of each kind of flower. Some plants may grow fine in the shade but flower better in full sun. ![]() Most candidates for flower gardens prefer full sun (6 or more hours of direct sun each day). Different plants need different amounts of light. What's important is that your garden look good to you.īreak this rule at your own peril. Or you might prefer a more natural look with sweeping curves and irregular clumps of plants. ![]() You might prefer a formal look with straight edged beds and plants in orderly patterns. The aesthetics, however, are more a matter of personal preference. If you ignore these imperatives, your results will likely be disappointing.
